When it comes to starting a business in the Philippines, completing the legalities is king. One of the most important requirements to fulfill is the Mayor’s Permit. This permit allows you to legally do business in a certain city or municipality. If you’re wondering how to apply for a Mayor’s Permit, and the items required by such, we got you. Here are several points to remember when applying for a Mayor’s Permit.
First, your business should be registered at DTI (for sole proprietorships) or SEC (for partnerships and corporations. Second, you need to compile the complete requirements before applying. Requirements for Mayor’s Permit include the following:
- Barangay Clearance
- DTI Business Name (sole proprietorship)
- Certificate of SEC Registration (if establishing a partnership or corporation)
- Public Liability Insurance (required from cinemas, restaurants, and malls)
- Lease Contract
- CEDULA
- SSS (Certification or Clearance)
The application process includes the following:
- Application and submission of requirements at the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO).
- Have your building fee assessed by the City/Municipal Engineering Office. Provide your building and occupancy permit, building location, and building area in square meters
- Have the Electrical Department assess your place for your Certificate of Electrical Inspection.
- Secure a Health and Sanitary permit from the Health and Sanitary Office. This will require you to have your employees to get drug tests and x-rays.
- Get a Fire Permit from the Bureau of Fire Protection.
- Proceed to the office of the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator for zoning clearance.
Once you have your zoning clearance, the Bureau of Fire Protection can sign your Fire Permit. Then go back to BPLO. The office will ask you to verify if documents are complete and they will also charge the following fees:
- Your Business
- Mayor’s Permit Fee
- Service Fee
- Sanitary Fee
- Local Fire Inspection Fee
- Business Plate
Once your business gets cleared from possible health and safety hazards, you can now proceed to the next step – processing your BIR registration. You’re one step closer to your business goals.
